Holiday travel tips
October 13, 2010
(Columbia, MO) With the busy holiday travel season upon us,it’s not too early to start planning your trip. Columbia Regional would like to remind travelers who are flying home for the holidays to plan ahead and allow extra time to ensure a more enjoyable travel experience.
It’s best to avoid peak travel days if your schedule is flexible. For Thanksgiving, the preceding Wednesday is definitely a day to avoid traveling. In December, the two days preceding Christmas and the day or two after are typically busy. Book your flights two days before and after Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's. As such, the earlier or later you can travel, or being willing to travel on the holiday itself, will usually result in better prices, less wait time and better seat options. If you're not locked into school- or work-mandated vacation days, being flexible with your travel dates can be a great cost-saving strategy.

All service changing to Regional Jets in April 2010
March, 2010
(Columbia, MO) Delta Air Lines upgraded to jet service for one flight out of Columbia in February and has already announced another round of upgrades for the Airport. Beginning April 6, Delta will switch all aircraft at Columbia Regional Airport (COU) from 34-seat Saab 340’s to 50-seat regional jets.
“We are pleased that Delta recognized the need for additional capacity in our market and filled that need with larger aircraft" says Kathy Frerking, Manager of the Columbia Regional Airport.
Delta Air Lines has consistently reported higher than expected load factors since August 2008 when they began service in Columbia. Load factors, meaning the percentage of seats filled on all flights leaving COU, have been averaging above 70% each month. In February 2010, Delta changed one of the three round-trip flights from a Saab 340 to a regional jet. Many of those flights have already been filled above the Saab 340’s capacity.
Don Laird, President of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce, said, “We are excited about the new service to our community. The entire region has benefited by having the Delta service to Columbia Regional Airport. The increased capacity of the new jets and efficiency of operation to Memphis gives us a great connection to the entire US.”

New name.....but the service remains the same
June, 2009
Effective June 2009, the name of the commercial service provider for Columbia Regional Airport (COU) has changed from Northwest Airlines to Delta Connection. Some of the planes have already been painted with the Delta colors but you will continue to see a few Northwest planes fly into COU until all the planes have been repainted, which is expected to occur before the end of the calendar year. Although flights from COU are still available through Northwest's reservations phone number and website, you can also make your reservations through Delta as well. Visit Delta's website at www.Delta.com or contact their reservations office at 800-221-1212 (800-323-2323 for SkyMiles Members or 800-325-1999 for Flight Information).
Delta Re-Branding Northwest Hubs
April, 2009
Delta and Northwest have completed consolidation efforts in many hub airports, including Detroit, Memphis and Minneapolis-St. Paul. Delta is removing Northwest branding nationwide and have been hard at work preparing for the conversion to the Delta branding. Many frequent business travelers have likely seen the start of these changes. Depending on which airport you are flying into, some Northwest employees are now wearing Delta uniforms, and Delta food and beverage options will begin appearing on Northwest-operated flights this month.

Check-in Prior to flights
Northwest is very strict about running an on-time airline, knowing that most of the passengers on the
plane have connections to make. For example, a number of connection times in Memphis are just 30
